In addition to those fantastic draw distances, Far Cry had some of the best water seen in games up to that point, amazing foliage, realistic physics, and even early HDR. As such, the graphical demands ensured it was a PC-only title for the first decade following release-a PS3/Xbox 360 version arrived in 2014-and it required a monster rig if you wanted the settings maxed. It was a scenario famously repeated in a later Crytek game also set on a tropical island, Crysis. Unlike most FPS games at the time, Far Cry features elements usually reserved for other genres. The player is sent into the country to find and eliminate the perpetrator. But, as horrible as it has been, shipments of new weapons are now entering the country despite a weapons ban. Those who could not flee the country have taken refuge in their homes, as death rules the streets. The government of an unnamed African country has crumbled, and the entire country has descended into civil war, with the two core forces, UFLL (United Front for Liberation and Labour) and APR (Alliance for Popular Resistance), leading the charge.
